Maybe you don't need new cabinets at this time- You can start by just changing your hardware on your cabinets- change them to handles and pulls. This will add a difference to the look. Add a fresh coat of paint on your walls- a trending color would freshen up that warm and welcoming feel. Don't have a back splash ? Add one that would change your feel/ look of your kitchen. Adding new sink would clean up that look a lot.
